I really enjoyed my stay at Bond's apartment at Lishuiqiaou. Bond is a kind, gentle, considerate man. The kind of gentleman one rarely meets nowadays. He very kindly offered to help me by offering to post my excess luggage when I was panicking because my suitcase was too heavy. I was greatly relieved and frankly amazed that anyone would be so kind. The apartment is cosy and comfortable, with a nice peaceful atmosphere and it's only one minute from the subway. I warmly recommend it!
the appartement was really convenient the owner was really kind and he answered at all our questions and whenever we needed him for somethig he was there.. the surroding of the appartement was also convenient handy for subway 1 minute walk to it and also 5 minutes walk to carrefour and other super markets .. enjoyed it!
I have written another detailed review regarding this Landlord's properties, as I stayed at two of the places he owns. Both were in high rise blocks. They were both suitable for one or two people and very handy for the Subway (lines 5 & 13) literally a minute's walk away from Lishiquiao offering a about a 30/40 minute commute into central Beijing tourist areas. Some knowledge of Chinese would be an advantage as the owner's English is fairly basic and some things may be misunderstood. I speak no Chinese and we 'got by' fairly well!

Handy for subway, less than 2 minutes walk from Lishiquiao station (lines 5 and 13). Simple and cheap from airport by Airport Express then change at Dongxhimen for line 13. Journey to airport takes about 45 mins / 1 hour depending on how much luggage you are toting! This costs pennies. It also removes the stress of not knowing how long a cab journey will take in the appalling traffic and stops you being scalped by the cartel of cabbies who seem to conspire to rip everyone off. The journey to the main tourist parts of Beijing by subway line 5 takes about 30/40 mins, so you are not in central Beijing, but this didn't bother me at all. Subway service starts around 5.45 and last trains are fairly early, but if you are heading back around 2300 you'll be OK.
The owner has at least two apartments in this high rise complex. I stayed in one on the top (31st) floor of one block and another on the 10th floor of another. They are a good size with plenty of cupboards and storage room. The wifi is good and secured, but remember You Tube and Facebook are banned in China and I could not get BBC radio via the Internet as that was blocked too. Both apartments had large fridge freezers and cable TV - only one apartment had a channel in English though - not a major problem in the grand scheme of things. Both had good washing machines and air con which were very handy. There's a huge shopping mall including a giant Carrefour hypermarket and food court about 7 minutes walk away. This does involve crossing a major 4-way junction, which can be challenging given the Beijinger's general disregard for traffic regulations. Stick close to locals, walk when they walk, stop when they stop and develop a 360 degree rotating head and you'll be fine!
The area seemed pretty working class / suburban with a sense of a real local community spirit, with men playing cards in the shade with crowds watching them and mothers and grannies meeting in the communal car park of the complex to natter and let toddlers run free for a bit. In the streets around the station and housing complex there are little local shops and a bustling night market where commuters and families pick up a meal on their way home or simply eat street food. There are some busy local restaurants, so speaking or reading Chinese would be a good bonus - you'll be just about the only non Chinese face in the area, which I enjoyed. That said, unfortunately there's also a McDonald's and KFC end route to the hypermarket if you're really unadventurous! Both apartments felt secure and the area was bustling and felt very safe. Noise was not an issue for me. You could hear some trains but no traffic or loud music/noisy neighbours etc.
The downsides were that the kitchens in both apartments were sparsely equipped, so don't plan on cooking much unless you rent longer term and buy some equipment/pans etc. The cleaning could have been more thorough in the kitchen and bathroom but a little attention by me solved that, just one of those things I guess. The owner is a nice guy, but be sure you and he both agree and understand arrival/departure dates and times as I had some 'misunderstandings' that were a bit frustrating. Think about discussing very clearly when mentioning AM/PM, Morning / Evening as this is where misunderstandings occur. Triple reconfirm arrival and departure days and times beforehand to be sure. It would be a bonus if you spoke some Chinese to remove any poss doubt. Be aware that you may need to buy a sim card from the vending machine in the airport as many non-Chinese phones won't work without a Chinese sim and you will need to be able to call/text the landlord. My sim cost 100 RMB (£10ish) and saved the day when the meter ran out and I needed him to sort it. Ask in advance about a deposit (didn't get asked or pay one for the first stay but got asked for 500RMB on the second?! This was receipted and returned with no issues) and be aware that electricity is metered so you might need to stump up for that (200 or 100 RMB).
Overall these apartments might be better suited to someone looking for a longer term let. I did a week stay and then 3 days on my return from travelling before flying home. The actual stay parts were fine but given the language constraints and my inflexible arrival and departure schedules, arrangements got a bit challenging at times, so bear this in mind and you'll find it easier.
Good Points - Good helpful hosts. Apartment spacious and clean with good facilities. 1 minute walk from subway.
Bad Points - Apartment was double booked when I arrived and had to spend the night at the host's apartment. The location is north side of Beijing (Lishuiqiao), for me it was to far out (the map on Wimdu shows the location near Jintailu)
