There is a supermarket, plus several restaurants and bars within a 3-minute walk. Sao Bento is less than 10 minutes walking distance from Cais do Sodré Train Station.
If you walk 5 minutes you´re at "Bairro Alto", known as one of the most attractive and picturesque areas of the Lisbon’s city center.
At night, this 17th century colorful district is transformed into the city's vibrant nightlife quarter. The main streets and narrow passageways are bustling with activity of dozens of excellent traditional restaurants, «fado singing houses», cafés, and a multitude of sleek clubs and bars that stay open until late. In recent years, «Bairro Alto» is also an alternative shopping destination, for those looking for trendy design shops, art galleries and bookshops. Bairro Alto, one of the Lisbon's hippest and coolest places.
There are several buses and trams, and subway, 10 minutes away, although one can easily walk to the main points of the city. Five minutes walking is the heart of the glamorous and cosmopolitan city can still be felt in the Chiado, a place where the "new" and "old" live in harmony. Characterized by casual-chic atmosphere, with streets full of shops, fine restaurants, beautiful cobblestone, beautiful churches and timeless cafes, Chiado makes any visitor feel real Lisbon.
Chiado is where Lisbon's history and urbanity meet. This tourist area of the capital begins at the Brasileira café, on Rua Garrett. Opened in 1905. It´s one of Lisbon's postcards. On the side walk café you will find the different urban tribes and a statue of poet Fernando Pessoa, who offers his lap for tourist photos.
Next to it, two churches remind the vanished towers of Santa Catarina Gate. The Church of Loreto, built in 1528 by Italians living in Lisbon, was partially destroyed by the 1755 earthquake, but later rebuilt and one of the places to visit on Chiado. The Church of Encarnação, inaugurated in 1708, was also hit in 1755 and rebuilt later. But Chiado has more than just two churches to see.
The Luís de Camões square, which any Lisboner will call Largo Camões, is not (email hidden). Sit on the steps of the poet's monument and enjoy the bustle that Chiado has.
But do not leave Chiado without inquiring about the theatres. São Luiz Municipal Theatre was one of Lisbon's first cinemas. Today it is a municipal theatre with a rich and varied programming. Also glimpse the Teatro Trindade and the S. Carlos Opera House.
This is one of the city´s best shopping areas. You will find international brand shops (Hermès and Hugo Boss, for example) and great Portuguese designers like José António Tenente (Tv. Carmo, 8) StoryTailors (Cç. Do Ferragial, 8) or Atelier Alves/Gonçalves (Tv. Guilherme Cossul, 16).
It is not difficult to come across public figures, mainly artists. There are several art schools in the area, like the Fine Arts Faculty. Even if you are not an expert, venture into the Chiado Museum - National Museum of Contemporary Art (Rua Serpa Pinto, 4) besides well-cared exhibitions, it has a pleasant patio to have lunch or simply sip a coffee. There is also a big offer for meals: Café Royale, New Wok and Kaffee Hause are excellent choices.

Our Host was friendly and well organised, spoke excellent english.
The Bedroom was clean and very comfortable. We would like to suggest to install a couple of coat hooks, perhaps behind the door/wall. It was not too much of a problem as we only stayed for 3x nights and only had a couple of jackets to hang over the chairs. Also, to our slight annoyance, the communal hallway light shone into our bedroom and was switched on all night. We had to use a cushion to block-out the light.
The Bathroom was small, the wall opposite to the WC is too close to sit comfortably so, if you're tall person it will be a bit of a squeeze. We also noticed, there was a lack of storage space for our toiletries and no towel ring or hooks was installed to hang up our towels. The water tank is not big but has enough water for two persons to have a quick shower and everything worked perfectly. The door lock was safe but the keys were difficult to turn in order to open and close, only a strong pair of hands that can manage to pull the door while turning the keys. Apart from these minor issues we enjoyed our stay.
Nice and well equipped accommodation, well served in terms of transportation and within a walking distance to Gulbenkian museums, Gulbenkian gardens and zoo.
Good communication with landlord/staff.
Apartment as described. Very well located. Well equipped as described. Antonio explained everything so I felt comfortable straight away. Indeed in very typical Portuguese surrounding. A bit noisy as on street level . However I had a real real good time in the apartment and in Lisbon.
The flat was as described, nicely furnitured. We were 4 people, the appartement was well suited for 4 persons, but in my opinion not for more persons.
The welcome was very very pleasant, Antonio gave us valuable tips for our trip.
The apartment has a very good location, not far to a supermarket, you can walk into the city, and 20 metres from the building you have a great kind of bakery where we had breakfast every day.
A great view over the city. Tastefully designed flat. At arrival, we even discovered in the fridge a great surprise: the Portuguese specialty, the pastry "pasteis de nata". Delicious. We enjoyed a lot our stay. Great commodities.
We had a great stay in Lisbon. We were with 3 adults and 1 baby and the apartment was wonderful. It was clean and has 2 large enough bedrooms. The Metro station Saldanha is on walking distance, 10 minutes.
This was a fine apartment - fully equipped, lovely view, very clean, nice bedding and a good reflection of the photos. The apartment is at the top floor of a building and no lift so not suitable for people with mobility challenges. The walk to the metro is about 10 minutes which was fine as it meant one saw the residential areas but if one wants to be very close to the city they may want to consider a closer apartment. I feel overall it was a lovely place, good value for money and the people managing the apartment very friendly and supportive.
nice people for welcoming us
just one point that was not an inconvenience for us but could be for others, the machinery of the the lift make some noise at night.
Great apartment iff your staying with friends! It has a nice terace with a beautifull view! In our opinion it's the best what you can get for this price!
Thnax for your hospitality!
Apartment in a great area and dealt with a very helpful and friendly Antonio. The room is a bedsit so just room with bathroom, perfect for one person, but can accommodate two on the pull out bed. Being on the ground floor there was a bit of noise from the street, but the plus was that it was right next to Tram 28 stops, ten minute walk from Barro Alto and there are a lot of small very local bars near by that are very much worth trying for a real local feel. Happy with our stay.
